DISCIPLINES

In the digital age it's vital that a designer understands a combination of disciplines. And in the emerging social media age, the skill and knowledge needed is expanding. Today, a designer must go beyond conveying ideas and displaying information, towards understanding how to engage a community in a useful process of perception and action.

Max Hancock is a interdisciplinary artist with a passion for digital design and interactivity. He is an architect of interaction design, providing expressive, attractive, useable Web content. The following is a collection of artistic disciplines that best reflects what he has done in the past and what he continues to provide today.

INTERACTION DESIGN

We're all authors of the Web, because the more we interact with it the more of it we create. The process in which a Web site is made has changed over the years, but the designer's role has remained; to maximize usability for the intended user.

GRAPHIC DESIGN

Much of what we rely on today to distribute mass communications revolves around the age-old practice of graphic design. Graphic design has always been about the illumination of knowledge by means of visual expression. What has changed is that the illuminating has become more and more ephemeral. It has gone beyond the printed page, incorporating a mixture mediums that were once reserved only for television.

MOTION GRAPHICS

No other visual arts discipline requires as much skill and technical knowledge as motion graphics. The capabilities of motion graphics tools continue to evolve and grow with incredible results and with seemingly endless possibilities. And more so than ever before, some of what is demanded of a designer today to achieve a desired effect or style, requires the use of 3D applications and other MG tools.

ART & MUSIC

Creative people understand that at the core of all disciplines, the foundation is art. Art is the transferring of an impression through conceptual ideas or free expression. While a designer's aim is to make things better, and to get at the core of what is essentially useful and good, art is all about pure expression, intuition and spontaneous creation, and to impart meaning that is difficult to describe by other forms of communication.
